Southern Colorado “Sheepdip” Scholarship Dinner - April 4, 2008
Two media veterans who came from other parts of the country and have found a home in Pueblo will be honored by the Southern Colorado Press Club at its annual Sheepdip scholarship dinner.
Tom Bruss, a longtime radio ad salesman, will receive the Mel Harmon Community Service Award in recognition of his involvement in many Pueblo activities. Gail Pitts, a longtime newspaper reporter and editor with the Denver Post and The Pueblo Chieftain, has been named the Damon Runyon Award recipient.
They will be recognized at Sheepdip, to be held April 4 at the Fortino Ballroom at Pueblo Community College. The evening opens with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Theme for the evening will be a look back at the heydays of Pueblo radio, featuring local DJs, memorabilia and a "Jingle Bell Rock."
"Southern Colorado Press Club is proud to honor Tom Bruss and Gail Pitts for their outstanding contributions to the communications profession in Southern Colorado," SCPC President Tracy Samora said. "I always look forward to this event to celebrate the accomplishments of fellow communications professionals. We are also proud to raise money for scholarships for future professionals who are receiving their education through the top-notch communications and new media departments at Pueblo Community College and Colorado State University-Pueblo."
This is the 29th annual Sheepdip and through the years, the press club has raised nearly $100,000 for scholarships at CSU-Pueblo, PCC and area high schools as well as other press club projects.
The dinner is open to the public. Cost is $50 for individuals and $25 for students. Paid reservations are due Thursday and should be mailed to P.O.Box 4738, Pueblo, CO 81003. For more information, contact secretary Bob Kennemer at 546-0400.
