Full details:
Lynne Lucier of Catholic Charities will describe the Nurturing Parenting Program — a family-centered program designed to strengthen families through education in empathy and caring, responsibility and discipline, and family growth. Parents and children of different ages attend the programs together. Learning is interactive with videos, games and activities to help parents and children learn how to care, communicate and have fun together.
The Nurturing Parenting Programs were initially developed from a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (MINH) in 1979-82. Extensive research studies worldwide attest to the effectiveness of the Nurturing Parenting Programs to treat and prevent the recurrence of child abuse and neglect. Families completing the Nurturing Parenting Programs show significant improvements in their parenting attitudes, knowledge and behavior. Pre and posttest assessment and long term follow-up data support the changes are maintained over time with proven low rates of recidivism.
