<p>The speaker for this month’s meeting will be Venice Gallegos. She holds a Masters Degree in social work and has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years and now works at Associates for Psychotherapy as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Play therapy, especially focused on sand tray, continues to be her specialty when working with children. Venice’s job as a therapist is to speak in the language of her clients and to understand what they are saying. When working with children we must recognize that their first language, the first place where they learn to express their thoughts, their feelings, where they learn to make sense of their world, is in play. The sand tray becomes a symbol of their world through the use of figures, toys, natural substances, and even water, offering a safe and comfortable setting for growth.
