Lake Avenue Baptist Church Hosting the Project
PURPOSE:
A combined effort by local assistance agencies in Pueblo to respond to the enormous unmet need around the holidays for gifts for children. There is an expectation that by combining the resources of local agencies more families can be assisted during the holidays. It is our goal to give families choice and autonomy as they shop for and wrap their own children’s gifts.
PROJECT:
Unwrapped new toys for ages three to twelve are being accepted by Posada (1008 North Grand Avenue) and Glendale4 (731 East 4th Street.) Toys will be separated by age for distribution to local children in need. Volunteers will assist families as they come through the store to shop for their children. Each family will receive two toys per child. Families can wrap their gifts at the store.
One thousand referral cards for families will be distributed to the agencies for the families they have assisted this past year. Families need to bring their reminder card with them to the store. The referral card will be kept by the agency. No other documentation is needed.
ASSISTANCE REQUESTED FROM COMMUNITY:
New, unwrapped toys will be accepted through December 19th. After December 9, 2006 the toys may be brought directly to Lake Avenue Baptist Church. Wrapping supplies including tape, scissors, wrapping paper and gift bags are needed.
Volunteers are needed to sign in families, walk with families through the store and assist families as they wrap gifts. There will be two brief trainings for people volunteering on December 14th, 2007 at 9am to 10pm and from 2:00 to 3:00pm. Volunteers will be needed to set up the store on Friday December 14, 2007 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
