Nonprofits and individuals seeking grant funding from U.S. foundations and corporations can register to attend the following Doris D. Kester and Southern Colorado Nonprofit Resource Center workshop @ your library:
 
Workshop: How to Approach a Foundation and an Overview of Recent Changes to the Foundation Center’s Online Database (2 hours), presented by Scott Ullman, Foundation Center Regional Training Coordinator (San Francisco)
 
Date: Friday, May 22, 2009, 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
 
Location: Rawlings Public Library, 100 East Abriendo Ave., Ryals Room, 4th floor.
 
The first part of this workshop will cover strategies for effective communication with grantmakers, taking you through initial contact to what happens after you receive funding. You will learn how to initiate contact with potential funders; plan calls and meetings; communicate during and after a grant decision; and ultimately, how to build lasting partnerships with grant-makers. During the second part of this workshop, you will be provided with an overview of recent changes made to the Foundation Center’s online database.

Workshop Presenter: Scott has been involved in the nonprofit sector since 1974 as a fundraiser, technical assistance provider, nonprofit executive and foundation director. Shifting careers in 1990, Scott received a Masters in Library Science and worked as a public reference librarian in the San Francisco Bay Area. In January 2001, Scott became a trainer for the Foundation Center’s San Francisco office, and as their regional training coordinator, he also provides outreach and training throughout the Western United States.
