What is the Metropolitan Community Church of Pueblo?
MCC Pueblo is affiliated with the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC). In 1968, the Reverend Elder Troy Perry, a former Pentecostal minister, founded this Christian denomination.
The UFMCC extends its ministry to all people regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, economic, ethnic or cultural background. Its membership, as well as leadership, comes from diverse Christian traditions - liberal, conservative, liturgical, charismatic and evangelical.
There are approximately 400 MCCs in 19 countries around the globe, with a membership of over 65,000 congregants.
Our church and denomination were founded with a primary, though not exclusive, outreach to the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered community.
We are not a "gay" church, but rather a Christian church in which all persons, from all backgrounds and all facets of life, are welcome.
What do we believe?
* Our faith is based on the Holy Bible, and the historic creeds (Apostles & Nicene). We confess the triune God, one person in three. God our Parent; Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son and Savior; and the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. We acknowledge the omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience.
* We believe the Holy Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, making known God's truth to humanity throughout history.
* We practice two sacraments of God's grace: Baptism and Holy Communion. Our communion table is open to all believers. You need not be a member of this, or any church, to receive and participate in Communion.
* We are committed to the inclusivity of all people, exemplified through the practice of inclusive language, thereby promoting justice, reconciliation and love.
Our History
MCC-Pueblo has also been a leader in social politica issues facing Southern Colorado's Gay, Lesbian Bisexual and Transgendered community.
When Amendment 2, an anti-gay equality amendment, was placed on the ballot, MCC-Pueblo played host to our fellowship's founder Reverend Elder Troy Perry's news conference of outlining the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches' opposition to the unfair and unjust ballot proposal, and celebrated it's defeat by the US Supreme Court by organizing a rally on the Pueblo County court house steps.
The PRIDE triangle on the Arkansas River levee mural was envisioned and designed by MCC-Pueblo and carried out with the help of every organization in the GLBT community.
MCC-Pueblo was also active in the first PRIDE WEEK celebration and recognition dinner, and has been involved ever since.
Since 1986, MCC-Pueblo has been delivering the wonderful message that God did not create step-children and that God's love is for all !!!!
