Mission StatementAs a non-profit, faith-based organization, the Center responds to the call of the scriptures and ministers to the needs of individuals in Pueblo County. The Center fulfills its mission by providing emergency services to persons who are experiencing some type of financial crisis. The Center seeks to assist these members of the community in a constructive and supportive atmosphere and to convey to them an attitude of hope and purpose. Our BeginningsWe began on April 5, 1982, in a very basic basement setting at Ascension Episcopal Church in downtown Pueblo. At that time the local economy had just been crippled by large-scale layoffs at CF&I Steel Corporation. Hundreds of families found themselves threatened with poverty, not knowing how they would pay the bills, clothe their children, or feed themselves. Broadening Church SupportThe Center began with support from five of the largest downtown Churches: Sacred heart Cathedral, First Baptist, First United Methodist, First Presbyterian, and Ascension Episcopal. Their cooperative effort enabled the Center to be a beacon of light and hope during years of severe economic crisis. |
Our Center ServicesHealthy Nourishment Growth and Changes over the YearsEven with improved economic conditions in Pueblo, there have always been families who have been left out of that prosperity, so over the years numerous other churches have made the Center one of their vital missions and enabled it to it present capacity to serve those in crisis.
